How We Solve This Project
Rachna Women’s Development Association in its resolve to work with the destitute and homeless people, provide temporary shelters to them so that they can shield themselves from extreme weather conditions and live decent lives. This year too, RWDA opened shelters at Kela Godham, Shakurpur and Badli More. RWDA equipped the shelters with basic amenities like water, beds, blankets, sanitation, nutrition, health facilities and electricity. Through this project organization is continuing to provide relief to the city’s homeless and destitute people.
Shelter is the basic need for human existence. The MNGO is constantly striving for adequate and dignified shelters in Delhi. Winters are the most vulnerable time for the homeless. Because Delhi winters reach 1-2 degrees Celsius at night, most homeless deaths happen at this time. With the backing of the Delhi High Court, MNGO coordinates 10 Homeless Resource Centers (HRCs) and 50 NGOs to staff 90 temporary shelters in 2016 across Delhi. With the Honorable High Court’s order, the shelters constructed for the winter season have been continued until present. It is a remarkable undertaking, but it’s one step towards providing a dignified space to all of Delhi’s citizens.
In 2017 the temporary shelters have been setup in newly designed large cabins, which are fire resistant, water proof and more hygienic. These shelters have wooden floor with vinyl covering, which is very easy to clean. Presently there are 100 such shelters out of total 150 shelters including all kinds of temporary or permanent.
